I get 5.9 -- not, for example. 5924
That would be much better if we could find a location to retrieve it.

I have a feeling, but no proof that there is no such location is available to us any more. But hey, all you smart people, feel free to keep looking for it and TIA.

Works for me.... "native" WB user. I mean interactvely under a browser. If I can get it to work under Linux (WGET command) WITHIN my LinkSys router, I'll be a happy camper.

I just wonder how long it will be before the $^*&^*&$ 's manage to "break" this link. Supposedly the "old" XML link was taken down for "privacy" reasons.

They have not really said anything at the Official forums but I never saw a security risk with it.

I already have an alternative set in place for that. If there is one thing I have learned is that if it is on the internet there is always a way to access it. I just hope I'm not pushed into something that might create a security risk in order to get information that is mine.

Hmmm.... I was over there complaining about it a couple hours ago and that was the answer I got. I'm sure it's a usual "blow off" type of answer, although I do get better service from the forums than calling CS.

BTW, I'm having problems getting your link to work using WGET under linux in my router. I'll keep messing with it, though. Old (XML) link worked fine using WGET until they took it down.

Yeah, that's why I only lurk over there but have never registered and never post. Then again I've not had a major problem in a while. Just minor, or temporary ones that resolve themselves.

It works for @attwb.net and @gotsky.com which means it probably works for all NRTC domains.

You can use the AT&T FAP server to get the results with a precision of 1 MB:

http://www.attwb.net/content/fap-sso/proxy_username.asp?user_name=

Append both the user name and domain name of the primary Wildblue or reseller email address to the end of the URL.

Spice300... thank you, as always you come through with a workaround as well. It is nice to have a couple of options as one never knows when one will disappear.

attwb.net (and its IP address) got to where it rarely responded. I found myaccount.wildblue.net more reliable...until I switched from direct WB to indirect through a local ISP. dishmail.net has been reliable (since learning about it yesterday) but it's reliably 0s.

That UsagePortlet thing posted earlier returned what looks like correct numbers for my account. FWIW.

Apparently, trueband is the official source of my FAP numbers. While there's a url for retrieving a csv table of FAP data, it's only samples obtained when logging in. Fortunately, that can be automated.

If there's any truth to the security excuse, everyone may have to jump through password protected hoops to get their FAP numbers.

Will this work for all NRTC domains also? I tried it this morning with a wildblue account and it worked fine.

This don't work for me by appending xxxxxx@wildblue.net. The server never responds. I'm on Duluth, I think.

Pinging www.attwb.net just gives timeouts.

The UsagePortlet "thingy" does work here, but not within a shell script in the router.

This second quote is what was posted over on WileblueWorld.com forums. WB_Matt is a moderator, and I think the WB prefix indicates that he is either an employee or at least has a close association with WB. Here's the link:

P.S. BTW.... a slightly "snippy" response I made in that thread myself has been removed.

Employees or not the "WB_" people over there do function as official spokespeople and liasons to WB customer service. Some of them at least clearly have access to customer records and so I would guess are employees.

I would characterize the current method of making the FAP info available no more secure than the last. The only thing they have done is rounded the numbers to hundreds instead of actual numbers. If that is security, it is security though obscurity and that of course is no security at all. All they have done is to give us less precise information.

Plus make it difficult (if not impossible) to run AUTOMATED scripts within our routers. I note what WB_Matt listed as the new "official" way to get your usage is using SessionID's which I'm not sure will work with the linux wget command.

Seriously, I'm thinking of dropping WB and going back to dialup for interactive browsing. BTW, that's probably the comment that got my message censored over on WBWorld. I know it really pissed me off that the message got removed, and if I cancel that will be the reason I was "pushed over the edge" to make the decision.

I have access to DSL at a community center a coupla miles down the road and I can do my big volume downloads there. It's only 180K bytes per second, but that's over three times faster than what I have now; PLUS it's totally free AND unmetered. Sadly, I'm only about mile past the DSL limit of 15000 feet (or whatever it is).

But I'm retired and I can go there whenever I need to.

Boo
